In 1994, while training for his Black Tips in Tae Kwon Do, he once again would find himself confronting weakness in both legs that had challenged his father three decades earlier when first introducing Wayne to exercise and massage.
It would be in 2012 when he would be diagnosed with a Chronic severe medical condition known as Idiopathic, Demyeinating Peripheral Neuropathy. Results from the nerve conduction tests carried out at mid central in Palmerston North showed no conclusive evidence that could be related to the Post Polio and the disease he was diagnosed with. However, elements from the test results regarding past problems with learning to walk were present. Wayne now walks with the aide of forearm crutches or cane, and chooses to continue his work inside the fitness industry operating as a Personal Training Instructor and Fitness Consultant.
